The German News Digest reports that Adam Opel AG has raised its sales target for Astra compact cars to 50,000 vehicles in Germany from 45,000, as the carmaker sees rising demand for the model.

The European sales target remained unchanged at 200,000 vehicles.
The company received more than 50,000 advance orders for the model, launched on March 20, 2004, from European dealers.
Adam Opel stirred up demand for Astra with a discount campaign offering some 1,000 euro ($1,225) price reduction per car for advance orders. Astra’s main competitor, German carmaker Volkswagen AG, reacted swiftly offering discounts for its new Golf V model, which was launched in October 2003.
