Audi is planning to increase production by 60% by 2015, without adding to its workforce.

According to dpa-AFX news, Audi is aiming to be the largest premium car manufacturer by 2015, by increasing production from 900,000 to 1.5m cars a year.
Audi’s head of personnel Werner Widuckel told dpa-AFXthat: “Reaching this goal is based on not increasing the number of personnel”.
One of Audi’s challenges will be an increase in the average age of its employers. By 2015 around a third of the workforce will be over 50. The average age of the workforce will be 45.
Audi is considering changing production processes and introducing flexible break periods to address the issue. A pilot project has already started on the line that produces the R8 sports car, said Widuckel.

By GlobalDataMore than a third of the 250 employees on the R8 line are over 40 years old. The car is virtually hand-built because it is a low volume model. Around 4,000 R8s will be built in Neckarsulm this year. This will rise to 6,000 units next year.
