Volkswagen hasn’t decided to will build a second plant in China, in the northwestern province of Xinjiang, a Volkswagen spokesman said.

“No decisions have been made,” the spokesman told Dow Jones, noting that China is an important future growth market.

He declined to confirm a report in German daily newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung saying the company plans to build a factory in the province’s capital Urumqi.

The article also said the German-Chinese joint venture Shanghai Volkswagen will make an initial investment of around EUR230m in the plant.
