The new plant houses a body shop, paint shop and assembly lines. Construction, including integration and test operations, took just under three years and overall investment volume is estimated at €1.3 billion.
The Leipzig plant eventually will have a production capacity of up to 650 vehicles per day. During the start-up phase 2,500 people are working there. At full capacity, over 5,000 jobs will have been created.
The official plant opening ceremony is scheduled for May 13 and the plant will be opened to the public for tours from July.
