DaimlerChrysler’s Mercedes Car Group boosted passenger car sales 17% year on year in May to a record 112,700, Dow Jones Newswires reported.

In the first five months, sales of Mercedes-Benz, Maybach and Smart cars reached 508,500 units, a 9.3% increase over the same period last year.
Mercedes-Benz brand sales rose last month by 22% to a record 101,800 cars., the report said.
From January to May, Mercedes-Benz delivered 459,100 passenger cars world wide, up 14% year on year.
But Smart minicar sales in Mat were off 17% to 10,900 vehicles world wide. For the first five months of the year, sales were off 22% to 49,400 cars, Dow Jones said.
Sales are expected to get a further boost this summer, when the new generation E-Class hits showrooms on June 10 in Europe and a few weeks later in the US, the news agency noted.
