The search is apparently at an early stage. Automobilwoche also said that Daimler would agree technical concepts for the next generation A- and B-class in spring. The next-generation model is due on sale in 2011.
“We want to produce significantly more than the 270,000 to 280,000 units that are currently produced,” Mercedes Car Group COO Rainer Schmückle told the German magazine. He added that producing in eastern Europe should help Mercedes achieve cost objectives that will help improve the competitiveness of the A- and B-class in their hard-fought market segment.
Schmückle added that the existing Rastatt plant is not under threat.
“The plant is an important production location for us.”
