Hiroyuki Matsumoto has been named vice president and general manager of Mazda’s European research and development centre in Oberursel, Germany. He replaces Norihiro Tomita, in the post since May 2007, who is moving to a new role as programme manager in the vehicle development division back in Japan.

Matsumoto, 47, is a veteran engineer with years of management experience in product development. He joined the automaker in 1985 in a test and research department progressed to manager and general manager in the NVH development department. His last job before coming to Europe was general manager for chassis development. He holds a degree in technology from the Kyoto University.
