MAN on Thursday said it had raised sales of heavy vehicles by 17% in 2006, strengthening its position in a hostile bid to take over rival truck maker Scania.
According to Reuters, the company said it had sold 87,000 trucks and buses last year and received orders for a total of 97,000 vehicles – sales were boosted by a big order from the British defence ministry.
The total number rose 20% compared to 2005, the report noted.
“MAN Nutzfahrzeuge (utility vehicles) has thus grown more than twice as fast as the European market,” the company said in a statement cited by the news agency.
