A spokesperson told the German newspaper, Handelsblatt, that the company is investigating the situation. If the market continues to develop as quickly as it has been doing, then the company would not rule out manufacturing in Russia.


The Russian financial newspaper, “Kommersant”, had reported that MAN was looking at a possible location in the town of Bryansk, 370km south west of Moscow.in western Russia. I said it had received the information from the Russian transport minister and that MAN would be investing several hundred million dollars in a plant.


A MAN spokesperson told dpa/AFX that there are no concrete plans to invest in Russia at present.


Daimler, Scania and Volvo are already investing in the country. Daimler is in the process of purchasing a 42% stake in KamAZ, while Volvo is building a plant. MAN is aiming for 24% of the Russian truck market this year, which it expects to be around 33,000 units. MAN currently supplies the Russian market from its Polish plant, which was opened in 2007.
