MAN Nutzfahrzeuge CEO, Hakan Samuelsson, has confirmed that there is likely to be some development towards the merger of MAN, Scania and VW Commercial Vehicles after MAN’s annual general meeting (AGM) later this month.

In a telephone interview with dpa-AFX, he said that he expects to see a decision within this year. He added that the parties do not have an indefinite timeline, and that it is in the interests of all three parties to clarify the issue as soon as possible. However he said that there is also no immediate pressure.
“We are open to discussions and we have the scope to do that after the annual general meeting,” said Samuelsson.
He said that there is no timetable but both Scania and MAN will have a new supervisory board and this will pave the way for a new phase in the discussion. The Scania AGM takes place today and is fully expected to elect Volkswagen CEO, Martin Winterkorn to the head of its supervisory board.
Volkswagen supervisory board chairman, Ferdinand Piech, will be elected to the chair of the MAN supervisory board later this month.
