The east German city of Leipzig is the most likely candidate for BMW’s new
3-series factory, the Handelsblatt newspaper said.

A decision on the DM1 billion project could be taken as early as tomorrow,
when the BMW group’s supervisory board is due to meet, Handelsblatt said.

The new plant will have a daily capacity of 600 and employ 2,500 people.

Handelsblatt said that Leipzig had offered a 620-hectare site near its airport
and motorways and can expect to attract subsidies worth up to 35 percent of
the project’s total costs.
