Overall the European new car market grew 0.7% last year and Kia said its sales performance, in a year in which it introduced six new models plus its first European-built model, the Ceed, was in line with its annual business plan.
Kia’s top selling model in Europe last year was the Picanto small car, with 83,203 units sold, including more than 16,000 in Italy, its biggest market, followed by the Sorento SUV (42,051), the Sportage (36,887) and the Rio with 34,196 sales.
The Korean automaker’s top markets in Europe in 2006 were Spain (46,378 sales, up 2%), Germany (42,920), the UK (36,583), Italy (36,090), France (19,972, up 4%) and Netherlands (19,114).
