Employers and trade unions are currently negotiating a collective wage agreement for the metal and electrical industries. Unions are angry that employers there have not yet made an offer. Stuttgart is the main city in Baden-Württemberg and home to Daimler and Porsche, plus supplier Robert Bosch.

Protest action in the region is, according to one local press report, unavoidable, and will start from 1 November before the second round of negotiations takes place. Baden-Württemberg is considered to be key to negotiations that could set the tone for agreements in other areas.

Unions are asking for an 8% pay increase – the highest demand for 16 years.
