One of the best offers quoted is a €6,200 discount on the Mitsubishi Pajero. Other incentives include low-interest credit. Volkswagen and Opel are also offering reduced insurance rates.
Although many of the current incentives run out at the end of March, the magazine sees no end to the trend. It notes that a new campaign, ‘Pro saubere Luft’, translated as ‘In favour of cleaner air,’ started on 1st April 2006.
Currently 21 brands have signed up to the campaign that is sponsored by the trade association that represents importers, the Verband der Internationalen Kraftfahrzeughersteller (VDIK).
The initiative is designed to encourage scrapping of older vehicles that only meet Euro 1 emissions requirements or less.
It is up to the individual companies to decide the value of the incentives, which will be offered in exchange for a new car or a used car, which meets at least Euro 3 requirements.
