Hyundai said its new model will “further shift” European consumer perception of the brand to a more aspirational position, thanks to a more dynamic design and class-leading quality, performance and technical features.

The new i40 will be launched in estate [wagon] form, with a saloon following later in the year.

Allan Rushforth, vice president of Hyundai Motor Europe said: “”We have bold ambitions for Hyundai in Europe, and the new i40 will provide the momentum we need to achieve our goals in 2011 and beyond.

“We expect the quality of the new i40 to continue the development of our image in Europe and attract new customers to the brand.”

The i40 was designed at the automaker’s European R&D facilities in Rüsselsheim, Germany. It will advance the so-called ‘fluidic sculpture design language’, featuring the signature hexagonal front grille.

It will include environmental technologies developed under the company’s Blue Drive eco-programme and a powertrain line-up which boasts claimed class-leading performance and fuel economy, and low CO2 emissions.

It will also come with a package that includes a five years of unlimited mileage warranty, roadside assistance and vehicle health checks.
