Hyundai Motor Europe GmbH has held an official groundbreaking ceremony at its new premises in Offenbach, Germany.

The automaker will move its headquarters in June next year to the new 16,300 square metre site in Offenbach. The facility will house the marketing and sales centre with 200 employees initially.

Dong Jin Kim, vice chairman and CEO of Hyundai Motor Company said: ” We need to align research and development, and design with European market needs and requirements. We must also further diversify and regionalise our sales and marketing activities.”

The new facility in Offenbach is about 10 miles south-east of Frankfurt, a hub of commerce abundant in highly skilled human resources and supply of auto parts, Hyundai said in a statement.

The Korea Herald noted that Korea’s largest car maker opened its current European headquarters in Resselsheim, southwest of Frankfurt, in September 2003.

Hyundai and Kia increased their combined market share in Europe from 2.5% to 3.2% last year, the paper added.
