The car will have a new platform and a range of new engines that will allow it to drastically reduce CO2 emissions, according to a media report.
Chief designer Walter De’ Silva was quoted as saying that the first step to reducing emissions was to make sure that the new model does not get any bigger. De’ Silva refused speculate when the model would be released but did confirm that his team was already working on the seventh generation.
“The Golf is the most important VW brand model,” he said. “Work on it never ends.”
De’ Silva also spoke about the next generation Beetle. He said the car would look ‘more grown-up’ in future.
