The Volkswagen group namesake brand boosted November sales 3.4% to 522,100 (November 2012: 504,800) units. Year to date sales rose the same percentage to 5.4m thanks to the latest Golf which passes 500,000 units this month.

Christian Klingler, sales and marketing chief, said: “We expect to see further momentum from key countries such as China and the USA, where the Golf will be launched shortly. The new Golf estate has just gone on sale, and the Sportsvan (Golf Plus replacement) along with the [EV] and the plug-in hybrid will follow next year.”

Asia-Pacific sales rose 15.8% from January to November but deliveries in India declined 14.7% to to 54,300 and, in a flat North America, 563,000 vehicles, US sales fell 5.2% to 373,700. South America sales fell 13.8% to 660,600.

Europe sales fell 4.8% to 1.51m.
