GERMANY: GM Russelsheim ‘will operate at full capacity from 2009’
GM expects that its Russelsheim, Germany, factory will be operating at full capacity next year when production of the new Insignia model, which replaces Vectra, ramps up.
GM expects that its Russelsheim, Germany, factory will be operating at full capacity next year when production of the new Insignia model, which replaces Vectra, ramps up.
The Financial Times Deutschland reported that the management has announced that it will produce 180,000 cars using a two-shift system.
The plant will also build the next Saab 9-5 and is GM’s lead European plant for the Epsilon II upper medium vehicle architecture.
In 2010 the company plans to introduce a third shift in order to allow the factory to produce 270,000 cars per annum. This year, only around 130,000 cars will be manufactured.
