The VW supervisory board considers Forster a possible alternative to Bernd Pischetsrieder, reported dpa-AFX.
A GM spokesperson denied the report saying that Forster has no plans to leave the company.
According to the weekend press in Germany, the Volkswagen board is split about whether to extend Pischetsrieder’s contract, which expires this summer. A decision will be made at the next meeting of the supervisory board on 2 May.
Audi boss Martin Winterkorn has also been mooted as a possible alternative to Pischetsrieder.
