will take over from American Robert Hendry as chief executive of General Motors’

Hendry said in January that he would resign at the end of March but GM has
been stalling on announcing his successor, despite industry-wide speculation
that it is Forster.

The rumour mill has also insisted that Forster had contract obligations with
BMW but the company scotched that last week by saying that there were no restrictions
on the executive who left their employ a year ago.

Opel spokespeople declined all comment, apart from confirming that the supervisory
board would discuss “the issue” on March 27.
