Former chief executive Joachim Milberg is in the running to take over as head of the supervisory board at BMW AG, sources familiar with the matter told Reuters.

The unnamed sources told the news agency that current supervisory board head Volker Doppelfeld will step down at the company’s annual shareholder meeting on May 13 on grounds of old age.
Reuters noted that Milberg is an experienced hand, having presided over the implementation of a strategy to focus on premium brands, who stepped down at the end of 2001 on health grounds.
