Ford
is recalling around 2,500 of its new Mondeo models in Europe because of a problem
with the airbag control module.
The company has found that in some versions, the module could malfunction,
causing the airbag warning light in the instrument panel to come on.
In some cases, the system could prematurely deploy the roof-mounted side curtain
airbags, which are in addition to the normal side airbags.
Ford is recalling 800 new Mondeos in the UK and 300 in Germany where the model
went on sale last month. There have been no reports of injuries or accidents
because of the problem.
Owners have been sent a letter and the work takes about one hour at a dealer.
