According to dpa/AFX news, Germany’s finance minister, Michael Glos, is continuing demand different requirements for different types of vehicles or possibly even for each vehicle manufacturer. Glos called for the “individuality of different vehicle manufacturers” to be taken into account at a recent meeting of EU finance ministers.
Italy and France are demanding standard requirements for all vehicle manufacturers, but Glos criticized this saying it is just because they do not house so many luxury vehicle manufacturers as Germany.
EU industry commissioner, Günter Verheugen, said that it is still impossible to say what form the actual legislation will take. The European Commission does not want the requirements to excessively burden vehicle manufacturers and wants a significant part of the reduction to come from environmentally-friendly fuels. Verheugen said; “We don’t want to make it so that certain cars can no longer be manufactured in Europe and lose jobs as a result.
