DaimlerChrysler AG will invest more than $US940 million by 2004 to develop fuel cell technology, the automaker said on Tuesday (2/01/01).

The company said the investment comes because it expects governments to raise air pollution standards and expects fuel demand to rise, straining supplies.

DaimlerChrysler will sell its first fuel cell vehicle, the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van, this year. The company plans to build city buses with fuel cells in 2002 and passenger cars with fuel cells in 2004.
