DaimlerChrysler plans to start building its own production facility in Russia at the beginning of 2006, German daily Handelsblatt reports.

The plant will be located near St. Petersburg.
Reportedly, the company is only to clear an issue related to the rates of duty. A possible decision on the plant construction is expected to be taken by the end of 2005.
In May 2005, DaimlerChrysler CEO, Juergen Schrempp, met Russia’s president Vladimir Putin to discuss the project personally; the investment has been estimated at $100 mln ($120.9 ln) then.
According to company sources cited by the newspaper, DaimlerChrysler plans to built not only Daimler’s Mercedes C- and E-class models at the plant but also some Chrysler models.
