Daimler has announced that it will build a new stamping plant for exterior truck parts in the southern Bavarian town of Kuppenheim. The plant will also produce parts for Daimler’s new compact cars.

The plant will cover an area of 156,000 square meters. The site was chosen because of its proximity to the Gaggenau component plant and company’s truck plant in Wörth and the A- and B-Class plant in Rastatt.
The Gaggenau plant is currently the Daimler Group’s centre of excellence for transmissions. Existing forming technology at the Gaggenau plant will be relocated to the new stamping facility, thus freeing up space to expand powertrain manufacturing at Gaggenau.
Construction of the new facility will commence in the first quarter of 2009 and be completed in the third quarter of 2010. The plant will employ around 130 people.
