CFO Bodo Uebber told the Financial Times Deutschland (FTD) that the company could go 24 months on short-time work.
The newspaper said that there are currently some 27,000 Daimler employees on reduced working hours.
According to the past agreements, the short-time labour will run until the end of December for six car production plants; it will be continued for the truck plants in Woerth and Mannheim until June 2010.
Talks about extensions are under way but no decision has been made yet, the FTD said.
