DaimlerChrysler AG is offering an armoured Mercedes-Benz for the US market – at a minimum price of $153,950 – says Associated Press (24/8/00).
The Mercedes-Benz S500 Guard, to go on sale in the US in November, features multiple layers of polycarbonate security glass alongside armour plating. The car also has 17-inch tyres that can run flat up to 35 mph, says the report.
Demonstrated at the Palace of Auburn Hills which included a mock attack by an armed mob, the company has sold armoured cars – up until now – only to Europe, Russia, Brazil and Mexico. Twenty-two of the V-8, 2001 models have already been sold, says the news agency.
