Continental AG has won the “lion’s share” of a large order from Chrysler to provide the ESP anti-rollover system for sport utility vehicles (SUVs), the German car parts group told Reuters, which noted that it will now supply all of the Big Three US car makers after winning an order from General Motors as well.

Chrysler is to make Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) standard on all of SUVs in 2006 in the United States, including several models in 2005. It will equip more than 750,000 SUVs within the first full year of implementation.
The system is already available on some Chrysler vehicles as an option for about $500, Reuters said, adding that Continental said in August it would supply ESP as a standard feature fir four Ford SUV models.
Continental, the world’s fourth-biggest tyre maker, said recently it was well placed to benefit from growing demand for ESP in the United States, the news agency noted.
