Bremen was the location of the former Daewoo operations, which GM acquired in 2002. The Daewoo brand was renamed Chevrolet across Europe at the beginning of 2005.
According to dpa-AFX, cost saving is the reason for the move, which should also allow the GM divisions to work more closely together.
Germany’s Opel and Saab headquarters are located at Ruesselsheim.
Similar moves have previously taken place in the UK. Chevrolet’s UK headquarters opened in Luton, in Bedfordshire north of London, close to the Vauxhall headquarters in January 2006 and later that year Saab also moved from Marlowe in Buckinghamshire into the Vauxhall HQ, more closely integrating the GM brands.
Chevrolet’s US-built models, along with Cadillac and Hummer, are imported and distributed separately in Europe by Dutch group Kroymans, based in Amsterdam.
