The car market in Germany increased by 22% in May from the same month of last year, according to figures released by the VDA.
A total of 304,700 cars were delivered to customers in Germany in May. In the first five months of the year, some 1,334,400 new cars have been sold in Germany.

May’s strong result follows a weaker April figure that had given rise to concerns that the recovery to demand in Germany could be running out of steam.
However, the VDA published other data reinforcing the view that the German economy and the automotive sector are retaining momentum. Commercial vehicle sales in May reached 30,830 units, some 38% ahead of last year. In the first five months, CV sales stood some 28% up on last year at 133,850 units.
Also, car exports stayed perky in May at 421,700 units, 16% up on last year. For the first five months of the year passenger car exports stood at 1,953,900 units, 11% up on the same period last year.
