New car sales in Germany declined by 1.9% in June, though the result was distorted by fewer working days falling in June this year. Adjusted for working days, car sales were slightly ahead of last year’s total, according to the VDA.

A total 277,614 new cars were registered in Germany last month, a decline of 1.9% compared with the same month last year.

In the first six months, new car registrations in Germany were up 2.4% over last year to 1.538m units, the KBA said.

Reuters reported that sales elsewhere in Europe were positive last month, suggesting that Europe’s gradual car market recovery remains on track. Car sales in France were up 3%, the Italian car market grew by 4% and car sales in Spain were up by 24%, encouraged by a scrappage scheme.
