The focal point of this expansion is the manufacture of high-pressure diesel-injection technology at the company’s Taejon plant. Major Korean car companies have been using Bosch common-rail systems in their models in increasing numbers. The background to this development is the Korean government decision to adopt the European emissions standard Euro 3, for the current year, and Euro 4 from 2006 for diesel passenger cars.

Bosch is planning further investments for the extension of an engineering centre with particular emphasis on application work in the area of diesel-injection technology, in addition to work in other areas of activity within the Bosch automotive technology business sector.

Bosch investment in Korea dates back to 1920 and, in 1985, the company opened a liaison office in Seoul. Today, Bosch has five wholly-owned subsidiaries in Korea employing more than 1,400.

Additionally, Bosch has interests in two joint ventures. In 2004, sales of Bosch Group products amounted to some €960 million. The range of products produced by the company in Korea include components for diesel and gasoline injection systems as well as antilock braking systems and small electric motors. In the mid l990’s Bosch established an engineering centre in Yongin for development and application work on systems fitted to Korean made vehicles.
