There was also a slight increase in earnings although precise figures will not be published until April.

“We have achieved our targets,” said chairman Franz Fehrenbach.

For the 2006 financial year he anticipates stronger growth.

Four percent growth in the Automotive Technology division in 2005 was supported by the diesel systems business. In regional terms nearly one-third of growth came from Asia.

Sales in Germany stagnated. This was partly due to the divestment of the Buderus castings and special steels business.

In the future Bosch is looking to expand partly by acquisition. Fehrenbach said: “Our scanners are in operation.”

The year 2005 also saw a renewed increase in research and development expenditure: the share of sales spent on R&D came to 7%, while in automotive technology this share was 2% higher.
