The 1.4-litre engine is boosted by a supercharger and the turbocharger, which has an integrated exhaust manifold and blow-off valve designed specifically to meet the requirements of the new high-performance unit. The result is reduced fuel consumption and lower emissions combined with more torque and enhanced engine durability.
“This revolutionary combination of direct injection and turbocharging offers great potential for the future,” said a BorgWarner spokesman. “The use of dual charging improves response time in small-displacement gasoline engines. The result is an exceptionally agile engine that combines exceptional drivability, fuel economy and reduced emissions. It is truly an ‘industry first.'”
The 1.4-litre engine with 125 kW will be available from November. A 103 kW (140 bhp) version will be launched in the VW Golf and Touran in spring 2006.
