According to Automobilwoche, BMW was formerly clear market leader in the premium car segment in Russia but Mercedes and Audi knocked it off the top spot last year.
Christian Kremer, head of BMW’s Russian sales company, told Automobilwoche that Russia is BMW’s third fastest growing market, after China. It sold 14,500 cars there in 2007, out of a total market of 120,000 cars in the upper price segment, and 2.5m cars overall.
With the premium car segment at just 4.7% of the market, BMW believes there is strong potential for its brand.
It currently has 63 dealerships in 47 towns and cities in Russia, according to Kremer.
