BMW on Tuesday said that sales of its cars rose 7.5% in May from the same month a year ago, driven by demand for BMWs and Minis that helped the company achieve a new milestone by breaking the half-million sold mark for the first five months of the year, the Associated Press (AP) reported.

Sales for the first five months of the year reportedly increased 8.4% to 517,184 from 477,098.
The company told AP it was the first time its sales surpassed the half-million mark in the first five months of any year.
During May, the company sold 113,626 cars, including 96,061 BMWs. Sales of the Mini were up 14.2% to 17,511, while 54 Rolls-Royce Phantoms were sold, down 15.6% from the same time last year, the Associated Press said, noting that DaimlerChrysler on Monday said sales at its Mercedes car group fell 5.8% in May.
