German automotive giant BMW AG says it will spend $300 million to expand production capacity at its assembly plant in Spartanburg County, S.C., according to Automotive News (3/7/00).
The carmaker said last week, that it intends to build an unspecified number of X5s at the site, alongside possibly using the site to develop sports utility vehicles of other sizes.

The carmaker said last week, that it intends to build an unspecified number of X5s at the site, alongside possibly using the site to develop sports utility vehicles of other sizes.
Five hundred additional workers are expected to be drafted in, boosting the total workforce at the plant to about 3,500, who would be in place by the end of the year to boost X5 output.
