BMW has reorganised its development departments to focus more strongly on its BMW, Mini and Rolls-Royce brands.
Brand-specific design studios have been set up for each of the brands as well as for Motorrad and M. The new studios will now be involved in the entire development process for new models from the first sketches to the start of production and will receive support from cross-brand specialist departments like model technology.
The heads of departments responsible until now for brand design will head the new studios: Gert Volker Hildebrand (Mini), Ian Cameron (Rolls-Royce), David Robb (Motorrad) and Ulf Weidhase (M and Individual).
New to group design director Chris Bangle’s team is Adrian van Hooydonk who will head the BMW studio. Van Hooydonk was previously president of BMW’s California studio DesignworksUSA.
