BMW brand sales were up 13.6% year on year in October at 79,680, the report added, with 12,910 5 series sold in October.
The company’s Mini brand, however, slipped in October, with sales falling 5.1% year on year in October to 14,340, Dow Jones noted.
For the January to October period, group sales were up 2% at 909,370 while ales of the BMW brand for the period were down 1.7% and the Mini up 26.2%, Dow Jones said.
BMW reportedly said China was its fastest growing market in 2003 – in the first 10 months, sales in the country more than doubled to 12,050 cars from 5,320.
These sales include 900 3-series cars that were produced by the company’s joint venture with Brilliance China Automotive Holdings Ltd, Dow Jones said, noting that production began in early September, with cars delivered to customers in mid-October.
Dow Jones said the reporting period includes the first sales from the Chinese venture, which was finalised earlier this year, while Chinese-produced 5-series cars will arrive at dealerships in November.
