“There may be a chance to go ahead with extra Saturday shifts, but we have to decide when we could do this,” an Audi spokesman in Germany told just-auto.

“It is an ongoing discussion – we have to discuss for the next few weeks and months how we can handle this to increase production – at the moment it makes no sense to go into detail.”

Conceding the extra demand was “good news, fine news,” the Audi spokesman added the company was committed to fulfilling the new target.

He also highlighted the Q3 in Spain with plans to enlarge the plant there, although emphasised the “main target” was to fulfil its goals in Germany.

Audi has a total of 13 production starts planned for 2011, including the Q3 in Martorell, Spain and the new A6 in Neckarsulm, Germany.

Audi will also begin a plant expansion this year in Gyor, Hungary for another A3 derivative, while a decision should be reached by 2015 regarding possible production capacities in the US.
