Audi is adding a three-cylinder petrol engine to its range for the first time.

The one-litre unit will debut in the revised A1 early next year. Audi claims that the turbocharged and directly injected engine – which will be designated 1.0 TFSI – will be capable of returning at least 60mpg with CO2 emissions of 99g/km. Power will be 95PS – a 6PS increase over the 1.2 TFSI that it replaces.
