The European automotive industry will not meet its own goal of reducing CO2 emissions to an average of 140 grams per kilometre, according to forecasts from market research institute B& D Forecast, conducted in cooperation with the Frankfurter Rundschau newspaper and reported in the Frankfurter Rundschau at the weekend.

ACEA had made commitments to the EU Commission in 1995 that this goal would be reached by 2008. The forecasters calculate that it will not be reached by 2010.


The CO2 emissions goal requires average fuel consumption of 5.5 litres per 100km (5.9 litres for petrol cars and 5.3 litres for diesels).


At the moment the figures is 6.5 litres.
