The German car market was up 3.3% to 218,365 units according to data released by the German KBA organisation.
Volkswagen Group's mass market brands saw declines in the month as the company suffered the adverse effects of its 'dieselgate' scandal and associated negative publicity and media attention.
Volkswagen brand sales were off 8.8% in the month versus the previous year's pace at 47,147 units, with Skoda down 73% to 9,904 units. SEAT was down 2.2% at 5,589 units.
Audi, however, was up 22.5% to 21,741 units.
