Tata Motors is eyeing the UK and Scandinavia as the first European markets to launch an electric version of its Nano brand.

The automaker said it would look to bring the electric version of the world’s cheapest car to European markets within three years. A traditional petrol-powered model would hit European markets by next year, Tata added.

According to Reuters, Tata vice chairman Ravi Kant declined to disclose a price range for the electric Nano.

There are no plans, however, to roll out the electric Nano in Tata’s native India. However, as just-auto reported in February, Tata has begun trial production of the INR100,000 (US$2,200) Nano at its new Sanand factory in Gujarat state last month and is set to begin commercial output by April.

Post-April, production is likely to double from the current monthly average of just around 4,000 cars. Tata currently makes the Nano at its plant in Pantnagar, Uttarakhand, which also builds the Ace, Winger and Magic.
