“Our new Rio is completely redesigned from the ground up, created especially with our European consumers in mind,” said Kia senior executive vice president and COO, Yong Hwan Kim.

Kia claims to have developed a high-quality rival to match or surpass the best B-segment products from famous European brands.

The redesigned Rio has three new or extensively redesigned engines – two petrol and one diesel claimed to deliver best-in-class power outputs. This is the third Kia passenger car to be launched with a diesel engine.

The sub-four metres long Rio hatchback complements the 4.2-metre sedan launched at the Detroit motor show earlier this year.

Taller, wider and shorter than the model it replaces, the Rio hatch has a longer wheelbase and much improved packaging to offer significantly more cabin space than its predecessor.

The redesigned Rio line-up, to be sold world-wide, runs to 20 models, three engines, two body styles, manual or automatic transmission, two equipment levels and a wide range of option packs.

The five-door hatchback and four-door sedan Rio models will both be sold in Europe from this summer.
