The new ‘i-stop’ version will share the limelight with the redesigned 3 MPS (Mazdaspeed Axela in Japan), the high performance flagship model with improved fuel economy and Euro 5-complient emissions.

The i-stop system is used with Mazda’s MZR two-litre DISI (direct injection spark ignition) engine to reduce fuel consumption by about 12% on the EU urban test cycle.

The MPS model carries over the the MZR 2.3-litre DISI turbocharged engine of its predecessor with updates to reduce fuel consumption and emissions.

Mazda 3 programme manager, Yoshiyuki Maeda said: “These two models add extra value to an all-new lineup that has already shown strong appeal. The new series takes a significant step ahead in both the realms of driving performance and environmental technology to lead the way toward a new generation of motoring.”
