General Motors Europe (GME) has released more photos of its Opel/Vauxhall Meriva Concept MPV showing the patented FlexDoors system with rear-hinged doors and B-pillars retained for passive security.

The front and rear doors can also be opened independently of each other.
GME claims other rear-hinged rear doors already on the market can only be opened after the front door has been opened. That is true for models like the Mazda RX-8 and Honda Element but Rolls-Royce told just-auto that its Phantom’s rear-hinged ‘coach doors’ also open independently.
GME said rear-hinged rear doors allow easier access and are combined in the concept car with the FlexSpace rear seating system used in the current production Meriva.
The FlexDoors system also enhances comfort and functionality, as the highest point of the roof – just behind the B-pillars – is exactly where the passengers enter and exit the vehicle, GME said.
