Fiat Auto’s Alfa Romeo brand will launch the 159 Sportwagon and Spider at the Geneva motor show next month, completing its redesigned mid-size model range.

The 159 Sportwagon is the same 4,660mm length as the saloon and the stylists have given it a sporty look, without the appearance of ‘added-on volume’ which characterises the typical station wagon.
Alfa claims the performance and dynamic handling of a sportscar with a boot (trunk) size in line with that of a premium-brand station wagon.
The Alfa 159 Sportwagon will be available in 2 or 3 versions (depending on market), with 12 paint colours and 5 interior colour schemes. The three new JTS petrol engines all have double continuous variable valve timing (260bhp 3.2-litre V6 24-valve, 185 bhp 2.2-litre I4 and 160bhp 1.9-litre I4).
There are also three turbodiesel ‘multijet’ engines (200bhp 2.4-litre 20-valve, 150bhp 1.9 16v and 120bhp 1.9-litre 8v). All have a new manual six-speed gearbox as standard while some versions can be had with either an automatic transmission or ‘Selespeed’ automated manual, also six-speed.
Also making its first public appearance in Geneva is the Alfa Spider, latest in a long tradition begun with the Giulietta Spider in the ‘50s.
Alfa describes the new Spider as “a generously-sized two-seater” that is 1,830 millimetres wide, 4,396mm long and 1,367mm high and characterised by elongated rear lights and four exhaust outlets “which accentuate the impression of great temperament”.
Available in two versions, it is offered with the 185bhp 2.2-litre I4 engine or the powerful 260bhp 3.2-litre V6. No diesels are mentioned.
‘Q4’ four wheel drive is available with the 3.2-litre V6 engines.
